Ways to Give in Hayward and Oakland
Posted on November 28, 2016 by Oozle Media
International College of Cosmetology is always happy to do what we can for our local communities. We enjoy hosting in-house events at our school to celebrate all cultures and all people, and we also love to encourage our students to go out and do things for their local communities outside of our school. If you’re wondering what you can do this giving season, check out all these ways to give back to Hayward and Oakland, California!
Help Students Learn to Read
Help the future of Hayward learn literacy with Super Stars Literacy group. From November 28, 2016 until June 23, 2017, you can volunteer to help teach children to read at Park Elementary. This elementary school is within a 3 minute walking distance from our school! See their event page to sign up!
Fight Global Hunger
On December 3, 2016, you can help the Stop Hunger Now group package meals for people in need in developing countries. You can sign up to volunteer or to hold your own meal packing event. For more information on registering, see their page. If you’re interested in taking the BART to this event from the Fruitvale station near ICOC, you can help be a part of the effort to a safer environment, too!
Historical Society Volunteer
You can help give back to historical Hayward, and build professional relationships at the same time. Become a volunteer for Hayward Area Historical Society & Museums, and you will have the chance to work in community gardens or be a tour guide for historical sites. Check out their registration page to get started!
VITAS Healthcare of East Bay needs ongoing volunteers to visit hospice patients in the Oakland area. You can make a difference in a patient’s life by spending time with them and their families to provide comfort and companionship. To become a hospice volunteer, check out their event page!
Help a child learn to read with the Super Star Literacy group from now until June 2017. You can help the future of Oakland by reading with kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders who are struggling. The time starts right after school lets out. Check out their page to see if you can be a part of this amazing effort.
Help plant, weed, and mulch a local garden with the group Friends of Sausal Creek! The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. If you want to help beautify Oakland, this project is for you! See their events and registration page to sign up!
