STEP 1: APPLY TO INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF COSMETOLOGY
After you speak with an International Admissions Advisor and decide on the program you want to enroll in, you will fill out the application and submit the necessary documentation to process your Form I-20. Please click the following link for ICOC applications.

STEP 2: OBTAIN THE FORM I-20 FROM INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF COSMETOLOGY
Once your application is complete, International College of Cosmetology will issue the initial attendance I-20 through SEVIS. The I-20 will be mailed to your international home address.
STEP 3: PAY THE SEVIS I-901 FEE & Apply for Nonimmigrant Visa
The Department of Homeland Security has implemented a $200.00 SEVIS I-901 Fee. Please be advised that International College of Cosmetology is not involved in the administration of this fee. It is your responsibility to make this fee payment directly to SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program).

STEP 4: APPLY FOR AND OBTAIN AN M-1 VISA AT THE US EMBASSY/CONSULATE
After you receive your I-20 and pay the SEVIS fee, you will need to visit the US Embassy/Consulate in your home country to apply for and obtain the M-1 Visa.
STEP 5: ARRIVE IN THE US THROUGH THE PORT OF ENTRY
Upon arrival in the US, you will need to be approved for entry into the United States through the Port of Entry. To be approved, you must possess a valid M-1 Visa, Form I-20 and passport.
STEP 6: BEGIN STUDYING AT INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF COSMETOLOGY
Once you’ve arrived in the United States, you will check into the campus you will be attending, go through orientation and begin your studies.
*Please note: International Student applicants fall into three categories:
- International Students – students who currently reside outside the United States
- Change of Status Students – prospective students who are currently in the United States on a visa type other than an M-1 Student Visa
- Transfer Students – students studying at another school on an M-1 visa who wish to transfer to International College of Cosmetology
The application process, as outlined above, will be slightly different if you are a Change of Status or Transfer student.

WHAT IS AN I-20?
The Form I-20 is an official U.S. government form. A prospective non-immigrant student must have a Form I-20 issued by an SEVP-certified school in order to become an M-1 student.
Only an SEVP-certified school can issue a Form I-20 to students that have been accepted for enrollment. It acts as proof of acceptance and contains the information that is needed to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, apply for a visa or change of status, and admission into the United States.
The Form I-20 has the student’s unique SEVIS identification (ID) number on the upper right hand side, directly above the barcode. SEVIS ID numbers are an N followed by 9 digits.
WHEN IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?
- International College of Cosmetology has rolling basis admissions, which means there are many start dates throughout the year. Therefore, there is not one specific deadline. However, please do not wait until the last minute to apply to International College of Cosmetology since it can take 2-3 weeks to process your application.
DOES INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF COSMETOLOGY REQUIRE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO SUBMIT A TOEFL SCORE?
- No, but International College of Cosmetology does require that you are proficient in English because all International College of Cosmetology classes are taught in English.
DO YOU OFFER HOUSING OPTIONS?
No. International College of Cosmetology does not offer student housing. However, organizations are available that can assist you, including Universal Student Housing. Please visit their website at www.ushstudent.com if you would like more information.
DO I HAVE TO ATTEND SCHOOL FULL-TIME?
Yes. The United States government requires all international students to attend school full-time while on the M-1 Visa.
WILL I BE ABLE TO TRANSFER CREDITS FROM A SCHOOL IN MY COUNTRY?
No. International College of Cosmetology is a non-degree granting institution. Credits from other schools are not transferable to International College of Cosmetology.
WHAT IS THE M-1 VISA?
The M-1 Student Visa is a non-immigrant visa which allows foreign students wishing to pursue vocational or non-academic studies, other than language training, to enter into the United States.
DO NON-IMMIGRANTS NEED A VISA TO BECOME A STUDENT IN THE UNITED STATES?
Yes, most non-immigrants need a student visa. The exceptions are those who are exempt from visa requirements or are already in the United States and plan to file for a change of status.
HOW DO NON-IMMIGRANTS OBTAIN A STUDENT VISA?
Visas can only be obtained outside the United States. After receiving a Form I-20 from a school, the prospective non-immigrant must apply to the local consulate or embassy for a visa appointment and interview. The SEVIS I-901 fee must be paid prior to the interview. As part of the visa application process, an interview at the embassy or consular section is required for visa applicants from age 14 through 79.
